Day 20: April 26, 2012

Day 20                                                                                                    Written Apr 26, 2012 11:17pm
It was so sad, Dallas said "Maybe tomorrow I will feel better and we can go home".

Overnight Dallas pulled some of his cadaver skin off his face. It's been itching him so horribly, he can't stand it. It's sad, because we had to use an arm restraint to keep him from scratching; but, that didn't help... he just sat forward far enough until he could reach. On the up side, he is working out his stomach and back muscles, as well as others, when he is sitting forward like that.

His dressing change went smoother than yesterday. We were able to get it done a little more quickly, with a little less pain; but, he also had more medicine at the start of the dressing change, which probably had a lot to do with it.

After the dressing change, we got Dallas to sit in the chair again. He and Daddy watched some cartoons together. He began scratching again and again, I had to hold his arm down to try and get him to stop, which made him extremely upset, saying "Mommy is mean to me" and he started crying. It's so difficult watching him go through this and us having to be the "bad guys" to keep him from scratching. It gets so bad he will scratch till he bleeds. Sigh.

We played an Angry Birds throwing game with Dallas. Working out his arms. He did pretty good. He got frustrated, but we kept pushing him. :)

Physical therapy came in to work with Dallas. They had him sitting on the side of the bed, blowing bubbles, hitting the balloon, moving and reaching. Then, they got him off the bed and had him standing up. It was sad to see him struggling to stand, we saw just how weak he had really become. But, we have to see the positive... he was standing up (supported, of course). He was able to get out of bed. Those are good things... he is working towards getting stronger.

Still trying to get Dallas' itching under control.
