Day 29: May 5, 2012

Day 29                                                                                                    Written May 5, 2012 9:54pm
Dallas didn't get to sleep until after 2am and then was back up about 8am. He woke up periodically throughout the night. A few of the times were not so pleasant. But, overall it wasn't too bad.
Yesterday Dallas asked if he would have to be in the hospital forever. It was so sad that he asked that. He's gotten so used to everything being done to him.

The doctors came in to check and see how Dallas was doing. Everything was going alright, and then he suddenly threw up; all the medicine he was just given was out of his system. Every time this happens, Dallas looks so scared. It's an awful feeling to know there isn't much that can be done for him, other than trying to comfort him during this.
We did the dressing change shortly after the doctors left. Dallas is getting more an more anxious with every change, anticipating more pain each time. This makes it much more difficult to do the change.
Physical therapy came in and worked with Dallas again. He is doing great with that. Now, he is getting to where he doesn't want to do PT at all, so that's also getting more difficult. He did walk quite a bit around the room, and was able to throw and kick the ball better than before, so he is getting stronger with each day.
My parents brought Mac to see Dallas again.  Dallas was so happy to see him.  He tried so hard to move over so Mac could sit with him.  So for part of the day, Mac and Dallas sat in the bed together, playing games and watching movies.  It's so empowering to see the two of them playing together again.  I know it has to be difficult for Mac to see, to try and understand, but he is taking things very well.

The lady from nutrition came in to see what Dallas wanted for dinner, he said "Chicken fingers, french fries, and a cheese burger." A large amount of food for a child who doesn't eat much of anything. To our surprise, they actually brought that out for him. He ate two bites of chicken, a bite of the cheese burger, and a bag of apples today! So much more than before. So he's getting his appetite back, YAY! Another step in the right direction.
Dallas fell asleep early; it took everything we had to keep him up. He ended up falling asleep around 6pm. Travis and I are going to try and get some rest tonight, since I have to take Kiana back to WV tomorrow; so

Donna and Kiana are going to stay with Dallas tonight. Kiana's got to go back to school for 2 weeks, then she's done. We are so thankful that the school is working with her so that she can see Dallas as much as possible. Hopefully Dallas will sleep good for them tonight.
