Day 34: May 10, 2012

Day 34                                                                                                    Written May 10, 2012 8:45pm
Dallas had a rough night again. Not much pain, but he was up every 10-15 minutes between coughing (and having to have the tube suctioned out), being startled from noise, itching, and wanting his Daddy. Donna and I stayed with him (Travis went to get some rest). I was able to get some sleep, as Donna stayed up with him all night. Hopefully he will get some rest today. Going for a long period of time without a good nights (or days) rest can't be good for healing and recovery.

Last night, Dallas got really upset. He asked to play his game, but he can't right now. His arms are restrained to keep him from pulling out his breathing tube and to prevent him from touching his face and bandages. So when we told him he couldn't play, he started crying. I hate that he can't do anything right now.

Dallas got his teeth brushed last night and this morning. He seems to really like that, so that's a good thing. He's also starting to get some rest.

Dallas' face is looking better. We were concerned about the "seams" on his face and how they will heal, but it looks even better today than yesterday.
He's had another X-ray, this one showing the lungs a little clearer than the day before.  So that's a positive.

His itching is getting worse and worse. While that's a good thing, a sign of healing, it's very irritating to him. Hopefully everything will stop itching soon and he will be in less pain and irritation.
Mac came today to see me and Travis, since he can't see Dallas yet (being on the ventilator).  I took him to the gift shop and he bought Dallas a puppy stuffed animal.  Mac just doesn't understand that he can't see Dallas right now, and it's really hurting him.  It won't be too much longer though.
Dallas' blood pressure has been of concern. It was very high for a while, and now it's dropped down pretty low, around 89/36. They are keeping an eye on it.
Dallas is also beginning to shake again, so it's something we are keeping an eye on.
Dallas has also had spurts where he stops breathing, but the ventilator is connected, so it kicks in when he doesn't breathe. He is supposed to be taken off the ventilator tomorrow morning, so this him not breathing over top of the ventilator is of concern.
Continue to keep Dallas in your thoughts and prayers.
