Day 26: May 2, 2012

Day 26                                                                                                Written May 2, 2012 10:28pm
Dallas woke up around 9pm last night and was up for a couple hours watching tv and playing his game. He fell back asleep about midnight, but woke back up around 1am and didn't go back to sleep until after 4am.

During the time he was sleeping, he's pulled off some of the cadaver skin, hopefully it won't cause any damage. He's been itching very bad. He also ran a fever overnight of 102.7, but it broke shortly after receiving his tylenol.

The therapy dog came in to see Dallas this morning. The dog laid in bed with him for a while. He loved seeing the dog, it was really good for him.

After the visit with the dog, we did Dallas' dressing change, which wasn't an easy one. There were so many areas that bled through the bandages and then dried, which made it extremely difficult. Dallas is getting more and more fearful with these changes, he is working himself up by anticipating the pain.

A little later, we took Dallas for a ride in the bear chair/wagon. He went up to the rooftop playground and rode around. Then we took him up to the Burn ICU where he spent the first 10 days. They were all so excited to see him. The trip wore him out, and when we got back, he fell asleep.

Dallas was asleep for about 30mins and then physical therapy and occupational therapy came in to work with him. He was NOT too happy about that. He did get out of bed and walk around a little, it took him about 5 minutes to take 15 steps. But it's progress. After he got back in bed, they moved his arms around, which is really hard on his right arm. They raised his right arm straight out above his head and he screamed out in pain. It sent chills through me, listening to the pain in his voice, it was so sad. Afterwards, he went back to sleep for about 2 hours.

Dallas has been running a fever off and on all day, but tylenol and motrin seem to get it to break. Hopefully the fevers will stop, especially since they can't find the cause. We think he may still be going through slight withdrawal, since he trembles every now and then and sweats profusely during certain times.

Donna and Kiana are going to stay with Dallas tonight so Travis and I can get some much needed rest. Thankfully she's here to help out. She's only left a handful of times, but was always back first thing in the morning.

Kiana is doing very well with Dallas, she has been here for the last 5 days and has only left to eat or sleep. She's doing great and Dallas is really enjoying her company.

Mac is coming back up tomorrow for a visit. Dallas is so excited. We are thinking about taking them to the rooftop playground or the playroom. Even though Dallas can't do much, being around his siblings helps him.
